Our Story

It Started With My Dog.

Now it's a movement for clarity when it matters most.

I'm Pietro, the founder of FareVet. This isn't a company story. It's about my dog, King, and the night I almost lost him too.

A story before FareVet existed

King

The dog who inspired FareVet

Fully recovered. Still a very good boy.

12h

Of searching with no platform

I never planned to start a company. I just needed answers.

I want to tell you about King before I tell you about FareVet, because the two aren't really separate stories.

King came into my life during an ordinary stretch of years. But the years that followed weren't always ordinary.

When I lost my mother, the house felt different in a way I didn't have words for, and King was the one who didn't need words. He was just there. On the floor beside me on the nights I couldn't sleep. Waiting by the door as if nothing in the world had changed, even though everything had.

I don't know how a dog understands grief, but somehow, he did.

He carried me through a part of my life I'm still not sure I could have carried by myself.

So when King swallowed a foreign object in 2021 and needed emergency surgery, it wasn't just a vet bill.

It was the thought of losing the one constant that had stayed beside me through the hardest year of my life.

I was handed a quote for nearly $5,000, money I didn't have, and a clock that gave me 24 hours to figure out what to do.

The Diagnosis

Foreign object. Emergency surgery needed within 24 hours.

Quote: $4,900. I didn't have it. I wasn't going to lose him over it either.

What I found when I looked for help

No platform. No database. No transparency.

No way to know what this procedure should actually cost, or whether anyone nearby could do it for less.

12 hours of phone calls

Clinic after clinic. Many wouldn't give prices over the phone.

Long hold times. Dead ends. Busy lines. Unanswered calls. The clock kept ticking, and so did the fear.

What I finally found

A second clinic. The exact same surgery. $1,500.

Less than a third of the original quote, and a number I could actually say yes to.

King made a full recovery. He's still with me today.

But that night left me with a question I couldn't let go of, and that question became FareVet.

I couldn't stop wondering: how many pet parents fight just as hard as I did, and still never find that second option?

How many families delay care, take on debt, or face impossible decisions simply because they don't have access to pricing information when they need it most? That question became FareVet.

A Letter to All Pet Parents

Dear pet parent,

After everything that happened with King, I assumed I'd had a rare, terrible night. A one-off. Bad luck.

I was wrong. The more I looked, the more I heard the same story, again and again, from people I'd never met, a confusing quote. A clock running out. A search for a second opinion that either came too late or never came at all.
I realized this wasn't my story. It was millions of people's stories happening quietly, one waiting room at a time, all across the country.

Some of those stories ended the way mine did. Others didn't. I've heard from people whose pet didn't make it, not because they didn't fight for them, but because the fight took place in the dark, against a clock, without the information they needed to make the call in time. If that's you, I'm not going to pretend I know exactly what that feels like. But I want you to know I heard you, and your story is part of why this exists.

And if you're in the middle of it right now, staring at a quote, making calls, trying to figure out what's actually fair, I see you too. That fear has a name, and you're not imagining it. It's real, it's common, and it deserves a better answer than "just trust us."

FareVet isn't just a product. It's a promise that your questions deserve answers, that your voice, and the voices of so many others, did not go unheard, and that no pet parent should have to face one of the hardest moments of their life without clarity.

Because I was lucky. I found that second option.

Too many families never do.

And that's why we built FareVet.

Founder & CEO, FareVet

P.S. — If you've lost a pet, I'm sorry. I mean that. And if you're in the middle of it right now, I hope you find your answer faster than I found mine.

Our Mission

A bridge, not a fight

I want to be clear about something: FareVet isn't here to work against veterinarians. The people behind the front desk and the surgery table are the ones who actually save animals' lives every single day, including King's. We owe them enormous respect, not suspicion.

What I am against is the silence in between. The moment when a pet parent doesn't know what to expect, can't plan ahead, and has no way to prepare financially or emotionally before they even walk through the door. That gap hurts everyone. It strains the conversation at the front desk. It adds stress to an already stressful visit. It sometimes means a family delays care they would have said yes to if they'd only known sooner.

FareVet exists to close that gap.
A transparency bridge, not a price war. When pet parents can plan ahead, they show up informed, confident, and ready to say yes. That's better for them. It's better for their pets. And it's better for every veterinarian who became one because they wanted to help animals, not negotiate sticker shock at the counter.
