In a major step toward smarter, more transparent pet care, FareVet, the first veterinary price comparison platform in North America, has announced the launch of its new AI-powered tool that analyzes uploaded vet bills and cost estimates to help pet parents make more informed, affordable decisions.

As vet care costs skyrocket and financial stress becomes a common thread among even middle- and upper-income pet owners, FareVet is betting that artificial intelligence can fill the trust gap, not by replacing vets, but by decoding what’s truly necessary, what might be upcharged, and where alternative options exist.

“We’ve seen pet parents come to us with $3,000 bills they can’t make sense of,” said Pietro Kabeya, FareVet’s founder. “Our AI tool is designed to act like a second set of eyes to help them understand the breakdown, spot red flags, and even negotiate more realistic paths forward.”

The process is simple. A user uploads a vet estimate or invoice into the FareVet app. The AI scans and parses the document line by line, comparing it against a national database of over 30,000 real-world vet costs. It then flags potentially unnecessary items, highlights bundled services or duplications, and identifies what procedures are standard for the pet’s species, age, and weight, and what might be excessive.

In many cases, FareVet’s tool provides an alternate estimate based on regional pricing benchmarks. If the user opts in, the platform can even reach out to a local clinic on the user’s behalf to explore whether a more affordable alternative is possible a potential game-changer for pet owners dealing with unaffordable or overwhelming bills.

Built for the Growing Crisis of Vet Care Affordability

Pet care inflation is outpacing almost every other consumer category. A 2024 industry report revealed that nearly 50% of pet owners have skipped or delayed care due to cost, while over 70% say they feel unprepared for large, unexpected vet bills. Yet despite the growing financial burden, veterinary practices often provide little to no price transparency up front.

This leaves pet parents with little room to plan, ask questions, or seek alternatives, especially when facing high-stakes health decisions.

FareVet’s AI is designed to bring that missing visibility and agency.

Beyond Just Cost: Smarter Pet Health Decisions

This new diagnostic layer marks an evolution for FareVet, which until now has focused primarily on helping users compare clinic prices by location, service type, and pet profile. With this launch, the company is positioning itself not only as a marketplace, but as a guide, helping pet parents navigate the messy middle of medical decision-making with more clarity and fewer surprises.

And the tool goes beyond cost savings. It provides users with contextual health information, including typical care pathways for common issues, what labs or imaging are usually needed, and which treatments are often recommended vs optional.

“Think of it as a translator between the medical world and the real world,” said Kabeya. “Our AI isn’t just flagging prices it’s helping pet parents understand why something was suggested, and whether it’s the best next step.”

Where It’s Going Next

While still in early rollout, FareVet’s AI vet bill tool has already been used in pilot cases to help families lower costs by hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of dollars. Upcoming versions will include direct vet Q&A support, a pet health record builder, and personalized alerts when a user’s quote appears far above local market rates.

For now, the goal is simple: help people get the care their pets need, without drowning in uncertainty or debt.
